Snake³ Devlog – April 23, 2025: "Wall Glow, Reactive Snake, and Power-Up Polish"

Hey everyone,

Been grinding hard on Snake³ this week and I wanted to drop a devlog to document the newest round of updates, polish, and effects! A lot of this came from feedback and I want to thank you guys for taking the time to help me improve!

What's New:

Reactive Snake Head

The snake head now dynamically changes color based on how close you are to the walls.

  • Starts green (safe)

  •  Smoothly blends to yellow, then red (danger)

  • Works with both cube mode and duck model

  • Makes navigating the cube more immersive and helps with wall awareness

Wall Glow Intensity

The game boundary (grid cube walls) now glow brighter as you approach them:

  • Uses emissive intensity and color that ramps up dynamically

  • Makes walls easier to see when close

  • Keeps visual clarity without hard flickers

  • Keeps the neon green aesthetic unless you're super close (then it pulses)

Polished Power-Up Logic

  • Magnetic Pull and Golden Rush are now fully hooked into the world logic

  • Both spawn based on sliders and spawn rates

  • Magnetic pull strength, radius, and chance are configurable live

  • Added Golden Rush audio, logic, and segment doubling during rush

  • Just feeling more arcadey now

New Sliders and Settings UI

  • WASD sensitivity is now tunable

  • Magnetic and Golden Rush spawn frequency + effects are live configurable

  • Everything is stored in one clean control panel (no reload needed)

Visual Debug & Intensity Logs

  • Tuned emissive reactions based on live console logging

  • Wall proximity now logs distance + intensity — helped dial in the smooth fade

  • Dev tools cleaned up for smoother debugging without clutter

What's Next?

Here’s what’s still cookin’:

  • Multiplayer Power-Up Sync

  • Obstacle System (Bombs, Mines, Particles)

  • Environment / Level Select Screen

  • Custom camera effects for tight spaces (maybe screen pulse?)

  • Audio/visual upgrades to NPC Snake

Appreciate any feedback if you're playtesting, especially if anything feels too harsh or too subtle.

More to come — stay tuned.
